Coffee on demand: CODD gets the handoff right
CODD brings the coffee, raises the tray, and waits while Ash takes a sip. The finished Command Center routine earned its approval through a few very visible corrections.
Every command center needs a coffee break. Our little service droid now has a name: CODD, Coffee On Demand Droid. His finished routine is part of the public Command Center, and the final animation has been approved.
CODD rolls in carrying a cup on his tray and stops short of Ash’s foot. The tray rises and moves closer. Ash reaches with his nearest paw, picks up the coffee, takes a sip, smiles, and returns the cup. CODD waits until the cup is supported and the paw has released it, lowers the tray, then turns and rolls away.
Getting there took more than moving a cup between two points. An early stopping position made CODD look as though he drove over Ash’s paw. Moving him back fixed the clearance but exposed an overextended arm. Raising the tray helped the reach, yet the sleeve still folded unnaturally across Ash’s chest during the sip.
That visible failure led to a different arm treatment: separate joined sleeve pieces and a controlled elbow path, with the paw moving with the forearm. Bringing the tray closer and adding a small head movement let Ash meet the cup without the old sleeve loop. The revised exchange was reviewed in the browser, with checks for pickup and return, pause and replay, and clearance around the feet.
The small details carry the scene: CODD waits patiently, Ash gets a quiet moment with his coffee, and the cup goes back before the droid leaves. The result is a completed animation for Ash’s world, not a claim that a physical coffee-serving robot has been built.
Visit the Command Center from the navigation above and choose “Call CODD for coffee” to watch the updated routine. The public scene remains separate from the Raspberry Pi conversation system. DDS-01 and Bishop’s letters remain planned work; this release completes CODD’s coffee exchange.
